Moist And My Pickup ,perform Better ,why??
SINCE I HAD THAT TRUCK ,WHEN ITS RAINING OUTSIDE OR JUST MOIST,IT PERFORM BETTER,AND I CANT FIGURED OUT WHY??
heres what ive checked and changed:
-NEW; plugs,wires,sparkplugs,dist cap,alternator,batterie,injectors checked.
BRAND NEW and tuned TPS.,filter clean,
ive changed about everything since i just got out of a top end rebuild
no change at startup
no change in voltage(checked with a digital voltmeter)
SIGNIFICANT CHANGE IN MILAGE
SIGNIFICANT CHANGE IN POWER,RESPONSSE
now for what i think might be a problem ,correct me if im wrong:
-i NEVER changed the O2 sensor ,it as 240 000km on it,could moist affect the sensor??
-Grounds all around the batterie seems real skitish!
plz help.

i think what he is trying to say is maybe your timing is off, thus causing some sort of detonation, resulting in the knock sensor telling the ecu to go into a limp mode type of deal...

i was at 10 btdc ,but somebody told me to advance more if use of high octane fuel. do you think it might be the grounds on the batterie, maybe not making good contact so theres not enought juice for a good spark ?? or could the O2 sensor affect performance??,responsse?
i really dont think its the O2 sensor!!

i meen thecnicaly what moist CAN DO:
-affect bad connections
-affect sensors ,only the ones that works with electronic pulse like 02 SENSOR!
-affect the detonation in the cylinder since moist affect spark.(but how in the hell whould it penetrate my oiled filter?)
-i dont see any other way moist can affect an engine!!

is the problem when it rains your truck runs like crap?
if so I have the same problem I am starting to think it is my maf
but I also know I need to replace the O2 sensor
my truck runs fine unless it is raining out or just rained this freaking sucks it stumbles if it is really wet out.
I even siliconed the dist cap to make sure no moisture could get in.

haha i did silicone the cap too,but my truck runs great when its moist,im trying to tell poeple its running BETTER when wet!!im meen crazy better,so much difference that when its dry outside and i see a small water pit on side of the road i HIT it!! just so i think it might get better. lol but the big difference is when its raining outside or really moisty.

i noticed when i got my truck i was having the same problem, i replaced the rotor/cap and rtv the cap, and replaced my wires and the problem was gone, i think it was either worn contacts in the cap, or it was the plugs absorbing moisture...
what chief was saying tho is his truck is running better when its wet...

Good point... but if you still insist it's something electrical, try some dialectric jelly. Put some on yer terminals, if thats where you think the problem is. I think it's the cool dense air thats doing it. Or maybe its the gasoline itself, Here in California, we have specially formulated gas for the summer that supposedly reduces smog, but makes yer car not have as much power and get bad gas mileage. In the wintertime, they change the formula, and you get better MPG, and more power. Its either the air or the gas, thats my call.

the way i see it just by bassic process of elimination you can try using a spray bottle to squirt suspected trouble areas while its running and see what causes change. Though some things will obviously have a voltage increase just from being wet, like the alternator.
Also i saw this in an above post too but depending on what elevation your at the change in air density definately causes alterations in performance with N/A engines.

Toyotas like OEM (NipponDenso) plugs.
Dont use Bosch Platinums etc...
Run stock timing.
Yes - the moisture will penetrate your oiled air filter.
Its mixed into the air in pretty small sized molecules, not as "rain drops".
The moisture will REDUCE detonation.
Thats why it runs better.
How much did they shave the head on the rebuild?

no idea really ,not much thats for sure ,anyway im buying a new O2 sensor tomorow mornin, anyway it take 3 min to install and ill give you some news.
one thing is for SURE my timming is not affected by the knock sensor, ive replaced the wire and checked the sensor and it in perfect condition, and my timming NEVER MOVES a dime!!
