modding a nwor header????

I have a NWOR Header for a 85. it has my needed o2 hook up but not a egr hook up. I have looked at selling it and buying a new one but not alot of interest. So I am entertaining the idea or drilling out the egr hook ups and then installing it on the truck. It is a NWOR so it has a super thick flange. Does anyone have any experience doing this of heard of this I have searched a little and found one person that gave it to a shop and they ˟˟˟˟ up his header but it was a different brand and had a thin flange. any thoughts or ideas would be welcome and appreciated.

thanks

what year is your truck? I have a non emission NWOR on my truck. I just trash canned my egr system. You should be old enough that you don't have to do emissions in wa anymore right? Some reason you want to keep it?

truck is a 93 I think I have a few more years of emissions left correct me if im wrong. also did you have to adjust your timing a lot when your trash canned it? I am not opposed to cleaning up the engine little by little.

I thought EGR came from the head?
PAIR went through the exhaust manifold?

I mean, that's how my '88 and my '91 22re's are.

I guess '85 might be different.

It does. The air injection is what runs through the exhaust manifold. I've always just cut the pipes and pinched them or welded the holes in the AIR plates up and bolted them on like normal.

Yeah, Washington is 25 years old for emissions exempt. I had a shop mod a set of headmans to accept my egr stuff. Was a stupid waste of money and those headers were crap, but it can be done. I'm a carb guy so I don't know how blocking/pinching off your egr/pair pipes will effect you emissions. Heard that the re's run better without that stuff, I know my R did.
You'll want to bring the tubes to the shop that will tap the headers so they can make sure they'll work.
The flange on the NWOR header is a beast. I've had mine on the truck for ~12years and ~100k mi and haven't had a single problem, nor do I see having one any time soon. One of the only products I'd concider buying from them.

Thanks for the replies. I think I will take the header down to Stan's Exhaust shop in Auburn. As they probably made mine for NWOR and see what they want to do it. My 85 did not have an egr so no hookups. Last time I talked to Stan's they questioned why the egr was still on. I do not want to remove it if possible because I feel Washington is going the way of Commiefornia and we will soon have to have visual emissions inspection. right now its just a tube up the tail and cigarette lighter plug in. With my luck it will probably switch right after mine is emissions exempt.

I hear ya on commiefornia. I grew up in Lynnwood area and finally had enough of the "left" side of the state (didn't use to be that way, I blame Califoria influx on that as well as the overcrowding) so I bugged out to the east side about 5 yr ago. Still have emissions in spokane but not for an '81!
Enough of that rant. Californian toy owners, I don't hate you or blame you for moving up to WA, just wish you had been more selective about the people you brought up with ya!
