kind of what I am thinking too...something about the 2WD frame being better when adding the front spring hanger--doesn't end up as high

There was a 92 X-cab body down here on craigslist that was kind of tempting but I need to finish my Trekker first

Thanks.... I ended up adding downbars on the bed, wheeled it for a while and sold it eventually. I have a couple more solid axles sitting in the garage for when I get ready to build the runner up-

Heres the build thread if your curious...

I recall being told before that the 2wd ifs frames are the same (or at least the rails have the same contour up front) as the older SFA 4wd frames.

Some searching says that the 2wd oil pan is smaller and you actually have greater clearance.

2wd is a great rig for starting a buld! Frame is just as high on the front arches as the SFA frames... only bitch is the tranny mounting. The 2wd has a messed up crossmember, makes placement of w56 or g-series w/ transfer case sort of a pain in the butt.

Still a great start! Have seen many start that way... just need some fenders from a 4x or a sawzall

I was thinking about doing a 2.7 taco 2wd build.... but got a new runner to play with, Whitey (it's nickname).
