Hey all. I am hearing a metallic rattle coming from somewhere on the passenger side engine bay. It gets louder as I put my ear closer to the passenger side wheel well, so it's coming from somewhere in that area. I really only notice it when idle and it doesn't happen consistently...the first time I heard it is when I was parking in a deck with my window down (echoed nicely). Any ideas? Motor mount maybe? Thanks!

 

...it sounds like something is loose and vibrating...metal on metal...and is not coming from the engine itself

 

Might be a exhaust heat shield.

 

might be a bearing as well. Get a mechanic's stethoscope.

 

Also consider the EGR tubes and pieces. They rattle when they corrode. Valves can be noisy as well on the V6
