^^^ you are right it shouldn't be a pissing match. I'm sorry if I am misinterpreting your posts but some of your analogies seem backwards in the previous posts. You are right that I have only the experience of the vehicle I own which we are discussing on this forum. I have looked at the cooling systems of the cars these fans and switches come out of, which is a good point for anyone who wants to cobble a different efan setup. The BMW switch threshold is only 6 degrees different then the toyota thermostat which is why I chose it. I still stand by the decision to use this proposed efan setup and my results, as well as others on multiple vehicle forums, seem to be producing great cooling for these engines.

I'm not sure, but it sounds like you are describing short cycling. Short cycling isn't bad for the engine, but it is going to shorten the life span of your fan relays and fan motor. The overall temperature range of the BMW switch is a little large. Maybe someone will try the Wahler in the upper radiator hose and see if it works well with the 82C stat. On my 22R, I think anything over 200F is too hot. That is just on my 22R, on another engine over 200F could be ideal. On the issue of climate, I found this record temperature chart. http://ggweather.com/climate/extremes_us.htm So if I lived in North Dakota or Montana, I might be changing my thermostat every Fall and Spring because of the large variation in temperatures. I, too, was wondering if I could obtain some useful coolant temperature info with an ir thermometer. I found a flat spot on my csr radiator directly opposite the inflow of hot coolant. By taking the hottest reading over about 5 to 10 seconds and taking readings for 5 to 10 minutes I found a 4 degree swing in coolant temperatures with an outside temperature of ~ 70F and operating with extended idling. This is about what I'd expect using a 180F single stage stat.
