The mechanic is stumped

OK, so ive been having a hard time with my 87 pickup recently. It started doing this thing where it would hesitate around 2K RPMS, but eventually I could power through it and keep going. Then it got worse and worse to the point where it die when I gave it gas half of the time, and wouldnt go over about 1750 rpms. I took it over to a mechanic shop, and they took it out for a test drive and the throttle cable snapped while on the drive, so they replaced it and noticed that the car was trying to ground through the throttle cable since there was no ground strap (who knows why), and it melted it slowly and eventually it snapped. So they fixed that and gave it back to me and it ran like a dream for about 30 miles, then it started doing the exact same thing again. I figured it might be bad gas, so I put in 10 gallons of premium with a little fuel conditioner, and tried to run it around for awhile to mix it up. It ran good for about 10 miles or so, then acted up again. So at this point im like wtf is going on and took it back to him and just told him to fix whatever they could find wrong. Well they checked fuel flow, mass airflow, egr valve, oil pressure, all sensors, and they found nothing wrong with any of it, but the truck is still bucking like a horse. He literally told me in the 20 years hes been specializing in toyotas hes never seen something like this before where hes been completely stumped and had to give up.
What in the world could this be?

im assuming 22ret?

any cel?

dirty injectors?

fuel pump in spec?

did you recheck the ground they installed?

my 86 was acting the same way, the injector wires were bad. i couldnt see from the outside of the wire that anything was wrong, so i tested every inch of the injector wire and found that it was rotting from the inside out.

just something to check into.

I think the engine trying to ground through the throttle cable is your clue. Check each and every ground on the vehicle, pull them off, clean them, clean the mounting area and put them back on.

Hmm. OK, thanks guys, ill look into it. Since it seems to be something electrical, there happens to be an automotive electrical specialty place right across the road from me, maybe ill take it over there and see what they have to say about it. Also, its a 22re, the original turbo engine was taken out years ago.

How much HP does a turbo make over a stock 22re - 5-10hp?
