Marlin Rear Bumper for 4Runner
#124
My new truck came with an All-Pro... my old one has a Marlin. Trying to decide which one to keep. Having had both, I'd get the All-Pro except that you can't fit a spare with it. It's simpler, lighter, cleaner and comes with a great powdercoat.
I'll probably go back to the Marlin though, just to fit the spare. All-Pro may be for sale soon.

Just found mine sitting at the door after I come back from vacations. Got rusty lil bit....
Have question on D-ring instal. Mount on the bumber is just skinny flat, look like need help to properly hold D-ring.
I see you guys weld sleve to the flat (as seen on the pic above or marlin website) is that strong enough?
Maybe flat should be duplicated and welded to the pipe with sleve sandwitched between?

I think the plate is plenty strong to tow from, and hold the shackle well enough, but a section of tube welded onto the existing plate would keep it from bouncing around the chipping the paint on your new bumper. I went down to my local hardware store and bought a foot of heater hose and cut a couple lenghts that would fit over the shackle pin and take up the slack when it's installed on the bumper. It isn't structural, but it keeps the rings from bouncing about the chipping the paint. I'm basically using it as a band-aid fix until I have time to get tube welded on.

Ordered bumper mostly for recovery points, I didn`t have any on the back, and reviews were mostly good. Didn`t realised bumper went on diet since.
Bumper is advertaised as having two d-ring mounts. I can`t say if those thingies are strong enough for real life recovery w/o testing, but they sure look like s..t with d-ring in it.
I did a quick search on marlin and d-rings. There was a bashing thread a while ago here, and person complained on lack of as he called "spacers"... Valid point was made, about pictures on marlin website. How about pictures of the stuff you actually sell Marlin, not the one on yer truck?

I have to fix it somehow for sure

I'm sure that the recovery point is adequate as far as strength is concerned. It may be less appealing to the eye however I am sure that marlin would not put his name on something that does not work properly.

To be funny I would get that pic and post for their competors "Marlin`s for strenght"

lack o' spacers
I agree about the aesthetics being off with no spacer. If anyone is successful in getting them from MC, post it, as would be interested. The tow point is plenty strong, spacer or no, however. Beyond that, while it's cool to have the D shackles hanging there, perhaps the only thing that lands you in the end is more rust?

Oh, I got 'em from Marlin. Gotta weld 'em on myself but I just asked and they sent them for free. Said they'd do it for anyone who asked.
I suppose the shackles look cool hanging there, but really a big shackle in the receiver is a better point to be yanking on anyhow.....

All they are are a couple of 1/4" pieces of steel shaped exactly like the shackle attachment point. You weld them either side of the yank point.
Yeah, just email and ask. Some people complain of having trouble reaching those guys. I've always dealt with Steve Meza who is always easy to get a hold of and very helpful.
