Manual Hub Swap ?'s

Rebuilt some Aisins, got the replacement gaskets and tonight will do the swap. Should you smear a light coat of grease on the two gaskets or leave them dry?

Thanks for all answers.

I left mine dry - never saw anything about smearing them(except the inner o-ring around the hub dial - i did throw some grease on that).

If you are swapping from Auto Hubs, don't you also need the conversion kit?

Yes you would. I assumed he was talking about hub swap on the vehicle in his sig ('92) which wasn't offered with auto hubs, just ADD.

Thanks guys, yeah ADD hubs straight across swap. If anybody is thinking about this it's super easy, (I'm a former bicycle mechanic, these are easier than rebuilding a freewheel.) Both gaskets and seals were$12.00 from the stealership.

Definately easy. Takes longer to take the wheels off than it does to do the swap. Gotta love it.

I did mine dry. I am seeing a little dust build up around the seems now. I will use a light coat of RTV when I pull the hubs to service the wheel bearings

Ahhhh - understood. I'm looking into possibly swapping out my Auto hubs, but I guess my 87 is different and requires the kit.

Yep, if you have the auto hubs (which i think i remember seeing your thread where you posted a picture?) then you need the conversion kit.
