Sold my Land Cruiser, bought an interim truck, a 2003 4wd Frontier until I upgrade to a Tacoma or another Land Cruiser.

Buying some new tires, but the selection of tires for a 16" rim is greater than it is for 15". Nissan guys don't appear to be as lucky with gear ratios, so I pretty much have to stick to ~31" tires, so I'm going with a 235/85r16 because I want a skinny tire.

Nissans are less popular than Toyotas (I can see why), so finding 16" Nissan rims is proving to be tough. Thus I'm going with 16" 4Runner rims. Toyota uses a tapered acorn lugnut, Nissan apparently use something else. Toyota uses a different pitch thread wheel stud, so I can't use the Toyota nuts with the Toyota wheels on the Nissan studs.

Short of replacing the wheel studs (don't want to go to that effort), how can I avoid a wheel flying off while driving because the lug nuts don't match up with the wheels?

Asking here instead of the Nissan forums because Nissan owners don't appear to have the same knowledge base as Toyota guys.

you can go to the auto parts store and buy new sets of lug nuts. did your nissan have aluminum wheels or steel wheels??? thats where the lug nuts difference comes into play. one will not work with the other and vise versa.

 

My 4runner has factory aluminum wheels, but the spare is on a steel wheel and the lug nuts work with both wheels, the lug nuts have a taper for the steel wheel at the bottom, not saying that the Nissan is the same but you might want to check it.

 

Go to your favorite tire shop and they can get you what you need, I had tapered lugs on my Hardbody,

If you can get lugs nuts with the Nissian thread and pitch they might not fit the Toyota Rims .

I speak from first hand issues I have 4 wheels that to use them on a Toyota I need to drill out the holes for the Aluminum wheel lug nuts to fit.

The cost of a drill bit to do this made the whole thing not cost effective besides the time.

I can buy 2 new wheels for the cost of the bit

I am going to be curious how this works out.

 

If I add Toyota bits piece by piece to my Frontier, maybe it will become a Tacoma.
