Low Oil Pressure

Gentlemen: I have a '90 Runner with 200k miles.I have noticed my oil pressure gauge is barely over the second indicator bar at 75 mph.At idle it is just under the first.Does this seem normal?Temperature gauge reads normal and engine is running smoothly and quietly. No exhaust to speak of.Any ideas?Thanks...Joe

the only thing i can say is all motors are going to be a lil different...when im at idle...mine sits just to the right of the first marking...when im really gassing it it sits slightly above the halfway...if im cruising its usually a lil below halfway...

Generally, I dont know if its the placement of the sensor or the engines, but yotas generally run low according to those gauges.

Mine runs just over half way running 55 but at A idle it drops under the first line , kinda worries me sometimes but its always been like that, give it just a little gas and jumps right up

Oil pressure

Don't worry about it. Mine has 306,000mi on it and it has had the same oil pressure reading as yours for a long time.

That seems normal to me. What weight oil do you use?

Thanks Guys

Thanks for your replies.Looks like I was overeacting to a normal situation.I think I am paying closer attention to the gauges now that the Runner has reached 200k miles and just thought that the o/p was way too low.You guys always have the answers to any questions I might post.Best 4Runner site on the web...Joe

Mine reads the same as yours (240K miles), it worries me from time to time, but my oil level is always good.

I just did hg job on high milage v6 (320 km) and just recently went for first long trip (1200 km). Before this hg job, oil pressure was always low (similar to yours). Now it is even lower...

at 2000 to 2800 rpms, oil pressure read between 0 and first notch. once the revs climb a little higher, the op guage will jump past the first notch, but thats as high as it will ever reach. Sounds like this is quite a bit lower than others, so now i really am worried... and at idle, it is barely above 0.

does this sound like a failing oil pump? any other ideas? could a thinner oil make things easier on my old oil pump? Sorry for hijacking thread jm, im kinda assuming you were done with it.

I have a 22re with factory pressure gauge. Like you, I read between 0 and the first notch.

Brand new motor. I've used two oil pumps:
A doa pump with a high pressure shimmed by-pass
A OEM turbo pump

with a mechanical gauge, idle pressure is around 20. Running pressure 70.

Factory oil gauge is as near worthless as you can get.
