loud screaming noise when cold

Hello, Whenever i drive my truck cold, mostly on the freeway, after sitting all night something makes an extremely loud screaming noise. The tachometer will seize up. It sounds like the noise is coming from the dash but i cant tell because it mostly happens on the freeway. It still drives the same and after a few min. it will stop and it wont happen again that day.

Any ideas?

The tach jack'n up prob has nothing to do with the noise, which I think is a power steering belt squeeling. My 89 3.0 always does it the first minute or so.

Wheel bearing maybe? could be too loose when it's cold but after it heats up it could expand and that could be why it goes away after a while. could be worth checking out.

Is the tach in that cable operated? If so I bet it needs to be lubed or replaced.

I think I know the noise your talking about. My speedo cable screams when its below 0* till the truck warms up a bit.

My 3.0 does this when cold as well, though usually not on the highway, usually its when she first starts up. and only does it for a min or so... in my case, its not a belt, it is the idler pulley bearing... A couple quick revs of the motor usually makes it stop too
