I am replacing my front right axle. When I came to step where you have to loosen the 6 axle shaft-to-differential housing nuts I could not break any of them loose. I tried a breaker bar, soaking them in WD-40, and I still can't break them loose. Any ideas? I would hope to try and get this done tonight. Thanks.

 

Try Heating Them Up With A Small Propane Pluming Torch. The Diffrential Material Will Expand Faster Than The Bolts. Usually Works Like A Charm Every Time. ( Do Not Heat Them Up Untill They Glow Just A Few Seconds Or So. Just To The Point Were There Nice And Toasty).

 

when i did my truck, i had to use a 24" breaker bar, and a 4' piece of pipe. used a pipe wrench to hold the shaft. have fun.

 

heat, PB blast, and a breaker bar.

woops, i'm not sure how this got doubleposted (especially so far apart)

so i'll add to what i stated before- heat around the bolt that needs to come out, as the surrounding metal will expand, thus making it easier to remove.

for nuts, heat the actual nut evenly, as you want IT to expand and turn easily off the bolt/stud.

 

i'm not sure of the shaft-to-diff bolts, but remember that some bolts in the front driveline are splined and you can only turn the nuts.

edit: yeah, i'm sure. the CV to differential tulip bolts are most definitely splined on the bolt, so don't bother trying to turn the bolt - you won't get anywhere. turn the nut

 

Yep - make sure you are turning the proper side!
