Hello! My clutch pedal soft on me (still sprang back) in 2nd gear so I flipped her around and went back home... followed the line from the master cylinder to the slave cylinder, which was completely blown and leaking. I took the boot off the clutch fork, which was really loose, I doubt it's clipped in within the bell housing. What do you think could have caused this? I'm set to drop the transmission Sunday to replace the clutch, maybe the fork just came unclipped? Is this one of those things where you have it out so you may as well change it (clutch) or should I ride it til it dies (if it hasn't already?)

i would change the slave clyinder and see if u can get a light and see why the fork feels so loose. might of just poped out and needs to be repushed in and it will be fine and u dont need to do your clutch. only reason i would do it is if it is slipping on u.

 

Cool, I wasn't entirely sure how the fork stayed in, I though there was a clip or spring around it, but if all it needs is pushed back in that'd be pretty great!
I'll see if I can get a light in that window on the bellhousing and investigate.

 

Well, here's one reason the fork is loose!

This was clipped in to the fork, and the rest of it is still threaded in to the bell housing!

 

easy out it out and get a new one.

 

That's what I was planning on doing, unfortunately I'll have to drop everything to get the right angle on it.

 

have u tried to see if u can use a screw driver and turn out the piece still in the housing. i know in some places i have been able to turn them out cause there is no pressure on the bolt and it turned out freely..

 

Yeah! maybe I could saw a little groove in to it and hammer it with a screw driver. Good idea! I'll try that when I get home tonight.

 

i think my truck's got something going on similar to your situation. wondering if you might have taken any pics of how that fork clips in under there? i'm assuming you had to drop the tranny to get access, but what else is involved?

without any pressure from the slave cyl, yes, the fork will have a little play....

 

I mean the slave won't touch it unless I push it forward into it

 

And I can move it back and fourth by hand freely

 

do u mean that u can move the slave after it has been tightened down?

 

No the clutch fork... I can move it entirely by hand back and fourth in its full range of movement if u can follow that
