Looking to Trade next week for 89 4runner
#1
Howdy Howdy Folks,
I'm Hayden and this is my first post here on yotatech. First of all lemme say yall rock, lots of helpful information that's been pushing me to trade out my subaru for a 4runner.
So, I'm fixin' to trade m 01 Impreza next week for an 89 4runner with a 22re. He's got roughly 212k on the engine, new timing chain, timing chain cover, harmonic balancer bushings, water pump, head gasket, oil pan gasket, and valve cover gaskets. He was asking $3900 for the old thing, which seems a little high in my mind. I'm sure it'll have the saggy bottom from what I've been reading, and a few other issues with rust seeing as it's a NC truck. I know my car, though salvaged, is worth more than $3900, but I'm in the market for an overland/expedition vehicle. I'm what you might call a professional dirtbag.
Anyways, I'm gonna look at this before I go through with a trade, but what issues should I be looking for mostly on his 4runner that would be something yall might see being a problem for me?
Also, I'm gonna try and get an extra something out of him for the value portion of it. Hope to hear from yall soon!

Bad frame. Look between the gas tank and frame for rot.
Leaks, Cv boots, diff's, rear main seal, trans.
bad hacked up wiring in the dash, but really anywhere on the truck.
Driving strait? Shake at freeways speeds, stopping power, and or surging of the brakes.
Rust behind the wheel wells, floor boards, body mounts.

price seems high. I agree rust and wiring are big ones. You didn't mention your location just the truck is from NC. Might be better to try and sale your Subaru and then shop for a rig. Have seen a couple '85's for that price range on here.

It is 25 years old and age alone will have several issues on it. I have seen "nice" trucks and there are several issue with them. They can be fixed but be prepared to go thru and fix them. Most fixes are not difficult or expensive and can be found on Yotatech. Ones you get the bugs worked out, they are some great little trucks and fun to have in the summer.
Besdies what has been mentioned I go thru the fuel system, ventilation system, all liquid lines will need flushed, intake system... It takes alot to get one back right.

So I'm over in Western NC near the Boone area, about 25 mins from the TN border. Where can I find the ad for that 85' you're talking about?
