I didn't have the option of buying the whole axle. And even if I did, no it would not be easier. With the Taco axle you would have to remount the spring perches and some other stuff I can't think of off the top of my head. And I don't know if the Taco axle is the same width as the pickup either...

Lol well may not be this summer but it will be sometime this year or next! Im thinking about buying a diesel daily driver and tow rig, but I dont know yet, so a truck payment will be taking a lot of my money! But I think I may do dual cases soon, but then I need new driveshafts and seats (I got a bench seat), and a new tcase crossmember! So I need to start saving up now!

If you don't know this already, you can use the gasket as your template to locate the wholes you will need to drill and the holes you will need to fill as well as the notch you will have to cut into the housing. Use a drill press to drill the new holes as you will need to drill them as straight as possible. Be sure your housing sits as level as possible. You might want to build a mount for your housing to sit level on the press. One option when filling in the unused threaded holes is to use about 1/4" of the threaded stud screwed in leaving about 1/8" of a gap between the top of the screwed in stud to the surface of the housing. Then just fill in the gap with welds and grind smooth. When cutting the notch, plasma majority of it off and then use a dremmel to clean it up. Good luck, have fun!!! Pay attention to your heat when filling in your holes!!! A warped housing is a pita!!
