The little bulb behind the HVAC controls

Hey folks,
I was replacing my head unit the other day and thought I'd try to find out why my HVAC controls don't light up when I turn my lights on. Turns out there's a little bulb in the middle of the four sliders (fan speed, temp, fresh/recirc, and registers).

It's a tiny bulb, maybe a half inch long and it's got a green 'condom' on it. To make it glow green. Anyways, I'm having a heck of a time trying to find a replacement for this sucker. Has anyone replaced this bulb before? If so, where did you find a replacement?

thanks!

Local auto parts store, and the dealer should have it too.

It sure took me awhile a long long time ago to figure out how to access it, but most know how to get to the bulb now.

A bit of a hijack, but what would cause the bulb to only work when its cold out? Unless its below -10 degrees celsuis, that light will not come on. Otherwise it does. Its the weirdest thing... End hijack

My bulb is still good,
but every now and then you have to bang the dash to get it to light up,
well that was after the first stereo install,
then I installed the CB and some how fried that one,
So I got another one,
now the bulb is good but every now and then when you move the controls it flickers....

So yeah...

Yeah, been there. Dealer wanted to replace whole switch to fix bulb. Never did find a bulb for that one. Got a donor from boneyard, switch and all for $5.

I think there is a flaw with the socket design or something because all of the trucks seem to have the flicker issue at one time or another. Once I figured out where the bulb was I found out I could just firmly push right on top of it and most of the time it would come back on.

Mine did burn out a few years ago and the aftermarket bulb was a little thicker at the base and kind of stretched out the prongs in the socket. I was able to get it in there and it works, but I doubt I could run an oem bulb again now that it has been stretched.

Well, I picked up the OEM bulb form the stealership this morning.

In case anyone cares, here's the Toyota part no.: 90981-11014

It cost me $2.68!! But, that's one less thing to annoy me

I have the same issue with my 97 4Runner (3rd Gen) the HVAC backlight (Toyota OEM 90981-11014) is failing. I will try the GE 192 bulb, hope that helps.
