little bit of rust...
ive got some cancer in some of my cylinder walls...
im still in process of my head gaskets. i was cleaning the old gasket material of of my block when i noticed the rust. mostly the drivers side. my guess is when i used some tap water for my radiator because i didnt have much choice as it was overheating and i had to get home, the rust started. sooo.....what do i need to do? it isnt deep rust at all. only a little bit

that sucks dude!
What would probably need to be done is "your not going to like this" pull the pistons and use a cylinder hone to put the cross hatch back in the cylinders and get rid of that nasty rust!

i was reeeeaaallly afraid i was going to hear that...but i think i have a leaky rear main seal anyway..so i should drop that pan..pull the crank...get rid of the rust..and replace the seal

meh.
rust on the cylinder walls means they were exposed to air. iron block, water and oxygen = rust. just because there's more oxidation on the left or right doesn't have anything to do with the coolant mix or tap water since the coolant flows around fast enough to equalize it all.
but it's always safer to fix problems you don't have as opposed to not doing something which will turn in to a problem later.
