Peow130 is right on the money with the oil aspect..

as for switchin to synthetic motor oil to increase mileage...doubt it..but if you switched alllll of ur fluids out with synthetics...then you would see an increase FOR SURE>.

Idk, the purple stuff is supposed to give like a 5% increase in mileage...
It's slick and has an amazing film strength.

I had a building engineer once tell me, that kendall and valvoline were both good oils, and the Kendall had the least amount of parafins in it. not that I would know why that would be bad, but he worked around tons of moving parts, so I have allways trusted his word. I am a bit surprised about the Castrol though...

What's your point?
I never advocated that it would actually help your MPG. It'll help your engine, that's for sure though. It says it will help your mpg, and from that test i don't doubt it..
I know for a fact that it would probably increase the longevity on an engine, because of it's high film strength.

Yup Syn's are better for start ups and resist breakdown with age and wear.

I use Royal Purple in my Dodge diesel exclusively in the engine and differentials. Haven't noticed any difference in milage (avg. 20mpg on hwy) but it stays clean and looks new after 5000 to 7000 miles in a diesel engine, makes me happy.
