lighting Problem? HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I put a new alternator in my 1989 toyota pickup, i went from the stock 60w alt. to a Gm 140w alt. last night the belt slipped off the alternator and on the way back to my house the lights stopped working just the headlights. to i fixed the belt and its working fine. but i went to drive it tonight and the head lights are working i figured it was a bed fuse or switch, but the tail lights and dash lights still worked. i said f it and drove with my off road lights. will driving i heard a clicking noise and all my lights went off (not including my offroadlights) my tail lights, dash lights went off so nothing worked. i was wondering if this had anything to do with my bigger alternator if i burned something up or???? and i was wonder what caused this if theirs anything i could check??? any tips???

When you replaced the alternator did you upgrade the fuse in the fuse box by the battery ?. The stock alternator is 60 amps and the fuse is rated at 80 amps, so you upgraded to a 140 amp alternator so now you need a 160 amp fuse to handle the higher out put of the new alternator.

It would be a good idea to upgrade the wire from the alternator to the fuse to at least 6 gauge wire, and also do the same for the small wire that comes off the positive battery terminal and goes into the fuse box, the factory wiring is to small to handle the out put of the new alternator and will over heat and short out if you don`t.
