LED's for 2nd Gen

I've tried searching but haven't been able to find it. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what kind of led lights can be used in a 2nd generation 4Runner interior/cluster. I can't find the exact amount or type for the instrument cluster. I'm guessing either #168 or #74? Anybody know how many lumens would be good when choosing leds for the cluster?

I would like change everything to an led. I think the center console switches for the rear window uses the neo-type led? Anyone know what type of neo...3,4,5? I think the ash tray and the climate control panel uses a #74?

I've been searching on superbrightleds.com and there's so much to choose from

Any help or links would be appreciated.

They even have a guide that tells you which bulbs go where which is here:

http://www.sylvania.com/ConsumerProd...lacementGuide/

Just punch in your make, model and year and it'll come up with everything you'll need.

Yeah, tried that. I noticed the light they list for the "back up" is wrong, my 91' 4Runner uses a #921. I noticed that they also list #194 for the instrument panel. I was hoping that someone with a 2nd gen who has done this mod can verify this for me. Also for the center console switches and A/C panel and ash tray light. I'll keep searching too.

I believe #194 is correct... now im not too sure. I've been looking into this mod ( blue LEDs) for all of my interior lights. I know theres quite a few guides out there. i know 194 and 74s are popular for the dash lights.

yeah, if we could just figure this out before ordering. I still can't figure out how many lumens to choose. I don't want to get a led that's not as bright as the bulb i'm replacing.

im pretty sure any LED you put in there will be brighter than stock... but hopefully someone wiill chime in. I'd like to know how many bulbs are needed... a part list would be PERFECT. Heres a good write up for 2nd gens. but it doesn't give a parts list.\

otherwise, its a great idea.
i hope they are more widely availible.

I'm mainly wanting leds (l.e.d.) for interior lighting. I know of all the exterior lights I would need and leds for that are really expensive. That and some are not bright enough, like for my reverse lamps which use #921. I couldn't find a #921 led that gives off the same amount of lumens as a#921 incandescent bulb (around 260 lumens). I'm getting a set of PIAA #921 Xtreme Whites for that, hopefully it will make things brighter in the back when I throw it into reverse.

My search is starting to narrow on what I need for the interior, it's looking like #194 or #168 (I think these are identical) for the guage cluster, #74 for the ash tray and A/C panel and Neo Wedge type (NEO5) for the various switches in the center console and dash. I'm assuming the cigarette lighter takes a #74 but I haven't verified that yet. Also a 31mm Festoon for the center dome light and a 37mm for the trunk dome light. I have the 22RE so my 4Runner didn't come with the 2 lamps mounted under the rear view mirror as the V6 models have.

If anyone knows more about what leds can be used in a 2nd gen please share the wealth.

I did the swap, but only changed out the main ones in the gauges and the one in the heater panel.

If memory serves, there are 4 #194s and 2 #74s in the gauges and 1 #74 in the heater panel. Now, if you want to change your idiot lights, you're looking at a bunch more #74s. My suggestion is to pull your gauges and count exactly how many you need and order up a couple extra while you're at it.

Pick the ones that offer 360 illumination. If you go with just a single element LED, you're going to get nothing but bright spots and poor coverage. I used the 5 element ones, but would probably order the 360 with high power SMD LEDs.

Thanks RobD, Hopefully I can change everything out and eventually do a write-up on it. It would be nice if I could find a gauge cluster in a junkyard to play with before I rip mine out. I use my truck everyday so i would like to just order everything at once.

Do you remember what lumens for what leds you ordered for your truck?

the cig lighter, glovebox, climate control, and steering column bulbs are all #74 but as RobD said, use the multi direction for the best coverage.
I replaced all of mine with red 74-xHP3 from superbrightleds.com

EXCEPT the climate control i used clear but red would have looked good too.

I also changed out my dome lights front and rear with red festoon bulbs.

im still wondering on how to change the rear view mirror lights... i imagine they are festoon as well. anyone know about these? and how to get to the bulbs?
