LED Headlights

I know there are other posts about this, but the technology with LED headlights has changed making many older posts outdated. I'm looking for advice on which headlight works good without breaking the bank. I'd like something that isn't noticeable except for the extra brightness. I see some 'retro' LEDs out there for about $100, and I feel that's reasonable, but I don't want to throw away $100 on some junk. I also don't trust Amazon reviews, so I'm asking here is anyone has experience with products similar to what I'm asking about. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Chuck

You should include specific info about your vehicle(model/year/etc) if you want a quality response.

Plenty of LED conversions for standard 7x 6 headlights. I've been looking to upgrade my sealed beam halogens for something brighter. Watching a lot of YouTube videos on LEDs. Seems some are good and a lot are junk that are not brighter than the OEM headlights. Seems on Toyotas of this era, you need to buy a rely kit. Toyota does something funky with grounds in their headlight switch.

There are also 7 x 6 headlight shells that take a separate Halogen bulb that are brighter than OEM sealed beams. Don't need a rely for them as not LED. Leaning that way for now.

I'd go slowly, watch a ton of YouTube as plenty of comparison videos before spending money. I'm still up in the air on my decision.

I saw that a relay kit is necessary. Right now, I'm leaning towards the Phillips 'retro' leds. I am taking my time though. That's why I posted here as one of my first steps.

There's one (Trucklite I think) that claims to work without a relay. I have the Phillips + relay and like them.

I’ve read where some people, especially with older rigs, have had wonky issues when trying to install LED headlights. Turn signals not working, etc. So I think the OP needs to hear from someone with a gen RN5/RN6 that did a conversion that worked.

I have had the trucklite led’s and just upgraded to JW speakers with a heated lens, the trucklites were plug and play the JW’s required relays…..

To your post you say technology has changed, well not really, cheap Amazon crap has flooded the market so in all reality it has just gotten cheaper, crappier LED’s and crappier quality control. Most of the posts I read where the issues have been with Amazon relay kits and Amazon lights.

you WILL get what you pay for with LED upgrades.

If I was looking for a factory looking light I would be all over the new Holley retro bright 5x7’s…….

But of course they are far from reasonably priced

I would also consider these they’re not leds but with a good quality HID kit they would be pretty sweet and I don’t think they look awful like some of those other lights
