Leaves in in-cabin air box
So I have a problem on my 1990 Pickup where leaves and seed pods end up falling into the cowl vent, then down into the in-cabin air box because there is no filter. They build up in there, and make the fan sound like a lawnmower, then as little pieces get minced up, get blown out the vents at me. I tried dropping the fan out once already to remove the debris, but it was a royal PITA to do, and I was not able to get it all the way out. I cleaned out what I could, but wasn't able to get it all out. Does anybody else have this problem? Is there an easier way to clean it out, and stop it from happening again?

If you have debris in your blower box, you have other issues as well. The cowl is most likely full of debri and then it gets to your blower and will block off your AC condenser. If you dont have AC, it will clog your heater core. It has been a while since I pulled the blower box assembly on your generation of truck, but you will need to do that and clean the debris out.
Other signs to look for is right behind your mud flaps, the debris has fallen down thru the drain holes and down into behind your fender. I would suggest pulling your windshield cowl and vacuuming all of the debri out and that will stop it from coming on down to your blower motor.
There is a stove pipe that is above the blower assembly that is supposed to keep that from happening, but it has fallen over it and down to your blower. I dont rememeber if on a 90 pick up if you can pull the blower box out with out pulling the dash to get the rest cleaned or not.

Yeah, I replaced my heater core a while back and can't imagine how to get that area clean without taking it all out. You'll be surprised how much crap is down there. It is just about the most annoying job to do though. Search for others' write up on here and don't use force on anything that isn't moving.
Also, while everything is out, clean your ducts. I ran a towel through everything and the car is healthy and clean smelling afterwards.

Well that isn't what I was hoping for. I kinda wondered if I would have to tear the dash apart.
As for not parking under trees... Unless it's in the garage that is impossible, I have lots of HUGE trees on my property.

Late to the conversation, but I have the same problem on my '87, and now I know I'll just have to deal with dodging leaf particles in the winter when I turn the heat on. (No AC)
