Leaking Injector o-rings

I have a problem with fuel smell in the truck I have dug around and I found wet fuel on the surface of one of the injectors. I pulled it apart yesterday and replaced the o-rings on ALL 6 injectors and put everything back together...ran it for a while today and I started getting the smell again...I checked that injector and it is leaking again....any ideas???

You replaced the o-rings with new ones right?

^I know looks like a stupid question but important.)

Got the right o-rings?

Clean out the injector ports first.

Try replacing the o-rings again but this time put a lil wipe a grease around them all then slip them in and make sure they are all the way in and tourqe the fuel rail down.

All 6 new o-rings and I used Vaseline to lubricate the installation....everything was clean before I reinstalled. The same one is leaking after replacing the set of o-rings.

They were Felpro o-rings from O-Reillys....the only thing I can think is that maybe I should get o-rings from the dealer but dang, could that really make a difference?

The o-rings need to be close to exact factory size or problems will occur. If its still only leaking on that one injector you could have a faulty injector itself. Or the injector didn't get pushed down in the port all the way when rail was tourqed...

With that kinda of problem the only thing to do is take it back apart and see where its still leaking from and correct it.

Not leaking from the "fuel rail" is it? Where the injector plugs into the rail.....

Well, the FSM says to use gasoline, not Vaseline, on the injector o-rings. Maybe there's a reason for that? I do know that I've seen some rubber o-rings swell substantially once they were exposed to gasoline.

INJECTORS INSTALLATION

1. INSTALL INJECTORS AND DELIVERY PIPES
(a) Install a new grommet to the injector.
(b) Apply a light coat of gasoline to a new O–ring, and
install it to the injector.
(c) While turning the injector clockwise and counter–
clockwise, push it to the delivery pipe. Install the six [sic] injectors.
(d) Position the injector connector outward.
...
(j) Check that the injectors rotate smoothly.
HINT: If injectors do not rotate smoothly, the probable
cause is incorrect installation of 0– rings. Replace the O–rings.

I have seen the same thing happen from time to time with the o-rings....I figure the Vaseline is petroleum based so I don't think it will hurt them. It's strange that they went for almost 11 months working perfectly and then all of the sudden they started leaking...then when I replace it, started leaking again immediately. I think when I break it back down I will swap the injector with another one on the rail and see if it still leaks....that way I will know if it is the injector or the rail

Ok, I nailed this one down today...I was very surprised at the result. I have access to a local guy that is just starting up an injector business (he's an awesome Toyota Guru too) and I pulled all six injectors off today and headed out to his shop. He bench tested the set of injectors and we found that two of them were leaking through the body of the injector. I replaced them with two he had already cleaned and checked, got them reinstalled and everything buttoned back up....perfection!
