I need to get some new rotors and brakes for my 88 4runner because the rotors are warped and need to be replaced. I have seen some at the local parts store for $35 a piece for stock ones and $120 for a set of slotted and drilled rotors on lc eng. Has anyone tried these from lc or had any experience with them, are they worth it? Thanks.

 

Do you feel like you have trouble braking? When I had 31's and OEM type rotors and pads I thought the braking was really good! IMO I wouldn't spend another 180 bucks on ricer rotors. Even with 33's now I don't think the braking is bad. I'd save the money and get the 35 dollar ones. I haven't tried LC's rotors, but I don't think they'd be that amazing to justify almost 200 more dollars.

 

I've never delt with the LC ones. I have ran various types of slotted cross drilled rotors and it makes a very big difference. but the only time I really noticed a difference is at high speed braking. We all know how fast our 4runners are. Although I'm sure they might help if your running some large tires as well. If it were me I would just get the local ones. as long as they aren't from Autozone...lol

 

Not worth it from them. Just get the stock ones, they will be just fine for you. Oh and just be sure to brake them in properly

 

Yeah I was considering it, but I went back and read the ad and its 120 each rotor so forget that, I will just go with the stock, mine are really bad right now and just need some new ones, thanks everyone.

 

I've had the crappy Chinese steel rotors ($30 are def. Chinese!) and they lasted less than 10k miles (warp like hell). Get the OEM ones from Toyota for less than $80 each. I have 100,000 miles on mine & still going strong...

The 4x4 rotors are a PITA to change out; you dont' want to have to do it again any time soon!

 

I got these for 53$$ a piece from napa. They are brembo. I really like them so far.

I use L. C. Engineering's brake rotors, pads, etc. and have had no problems with them. They stop better than the stock ones and overall braking performance has been greatly improved.

 

I love mine. Braking performance has increased tremendously.
I'm also running oversized tires too.
I used the larger 4 large piston caliper from a newer 4Runner, LC Rotors, and HAWK Pads

just a reminder, i have this problem and it is a notorious 4RUNNER problem, but the stock rotors like to warp all to hell, especially iof you have the SR5 rim or a similar pattern that doesnt allow much air flow... they just werent designed correctly... and altho the nicer brake rotors are pricier, i would still upgrade to them with the full satisfaction of knowing that i never have to worry about warpage again... and thats a big deal to me since i found out how much of a PITA it is to replace them...

also, check out the for sale boards on the forums here and pirate... i may be picking up a used set of powerslot rotors for under 50 bucks... a STEAL considering that they too are 120 a piece...

 

I've had exceptional personal luck with powerslot rotors. The key is that you get all the benefits of slotted or drilled rotors without the fully penetrating cuts in the rotor. That often leads to spiderweb cracks from stress and corrosion heading outwards from the drill or slot holes. When the Powerslot ones have worn the gas venting channels out, its time to change the rotors! They're designed to double as a wear indicator! how nice is that!?
