Big chore, assuming your sig line is correct, yours will be under the intake manifold. Dont even think of doing it without replacing the wire also (short pigtail). Its almost alwasy the connector (corrosion) and sometimes the wire in the harness, but never seen a bad knock sensor yet.

Retarded timing.. How retarded isn't likely known.
Less power for sure, worse mileage.. Very retarded timing = high EGTs, but it depends on how much the ECU is allowed to back the timing down.

Can I just replace the wire??? I only get the CEL very intermittantly. I reset and it takes days and sometimes weeks before the CEL returns.

S, If you had a 22R series with a damaged wire / connection - I'd say yes.. I don't know what the particular problem is with the V6, other than I know it's a PITA to get to...

So is your wire bad? Is it disconnected at the connector?
You can just replace the wire - but it may be a shielded wire (like coax) - let me know and report back.

it is under the intake, you have to take the upper plenum off then remove the manifold, it will be right there, do yourself a favor and replace the sensor too, i made the mistake of not getting the sensor(just did the wire), and now after all that work i still get the same code!! The first time you get into it, it will b a apain in the butt, and prob take several hours, but after you figure out all the shortcuts it shouldnt take more than 4-5 hrs...goodluck

Steve has a 22RTE. It's 9:30 relative to the oil filter.
