Cel Knock Sensor

Posting also here since the newbies have not come up with an answer yet!!

Well my latest changing of the shocks on my sons '90 4Runner 4x4, the drivers half shaft, steering damper, fan bracket pulley that just went out, radiator that was needing it, these last two weekends.
Now, the old faithful knock sensor cel has resurfaced. It does not knock or ping on light or hard acceleration. I am using premium to indeed see if that did any good, did not so back to middle grade pump gas. I got the car where it pretty much purrs at idle and runs fine. Uses gas like vintage 60's classic though and I guess this is the nature of the beast? Timing is right on, 10degress jumpered and 8 unjumpered. I want to know from my fellow yota owners, if I were to get a new knock sensor, new wire and just mount it somewhere in the engine compartment. Will this satisfy the ECU GODS???? I do not feel like taking off the top end. Tired of being the wkend mechanic.
Will this work? If you have any other suggestions, please, I would welcome them for sure
engine is 3vze? 6Cyl

Im pretty sure it has to be in to complete the circut. (sp?) now im not 100% about the 3.0 but i know the 22re has 2. so make sure you get the right sensor.

I think as long as I ground out the knock sensor in the engine bay, my idea will work. If it does not, it means it is the ECU is bad.

I'd measure the impedance of the knock sensor before I tried that.. Make sure it's not a high impedance device. Also make sure the ECU doesn't provide it any power with the key on.

I think this is a common problem with the V6. It's a pain to get to, but most likely the wire/connection at the knock sensor itself.
