knock sensor shot

knock sensor is shot on my 3vze unless the wires are frayed, of which i will check prior to going to deep into removal, but in the event i have to extract and replace the buried bastard, what else would some of you old school mechanics recommend me doing while I'm in there, already did the timing belt water pump and tensioner. just looking for a second opinion, thanks elwood

The harness going to the sensor usually gets hard and brittle. Basically you only need intake gaskets, the knock sensor sub harness and the sensor might be good, but might as well replace it since your all the way down in there.

But get an OEM sensor & harness if possible. I've had a lot of trouble with aftermarket knock sensors on the 3vze. The other issue I've seen is there's a different sensor up to 1988-91 than the 1992-95, so make sure you get the right one for your year.
