Knock sensor disconnected, no CEL?

Hi folks,

This is my first post on the forum, and I hope it will lead to many more! I picked up a 95 pickup that has a lot of deferred maintenance, and I'm slowly working through it.

I was doing the oil change this morning, and I discovered what looks like a knock sensor screwed in the block. Dangling out of the wire harness above, there's a small yellow wire, with a crimped on blade terminal. It's too short to reach, but I can only assume that I'm looking at a half finished repair for a knock sensor wiring issue.

Question - if my knock sensor is disconnected, why am I not getting a code? The "check engine" light works in the dash. The engine also runs fine, it just needs a valve adjustment and possibly a timing chain as a preventative measure.

Anyway, thanks for any input!

I would post a picture of the sensor in question. There are two sensors located near the oil filer. One is the knock sensor and one is the oil pressure light switch or if you have a sr5 cluster it will be the oil pressure sending unit.

Superex87, thanks for the reply. The sensor I'm posting about is below and forward from the oil filter, on the passenger side of the block. It's the middle of the night (I work nights), so I can't get a photo, but it resembles pictures of both a knock sensor and an oil pressure switch, which is confusing!

The gauge cluster in this truck is the base model, and the oil light doesn't come on with the key in the on position. I appreciate the feedback and it looks like I need to do some more troubleshooting to locate my problem.

Thanks!

It's always helpful if you at least drop a hint about what engine/trans you have. Put the info in your signature or include it in your original post when you ask a question.
All we know is you have a 95 pickup. Is it a 4 cylinder? 6 cylinder? LS swap? Cummins?
