Knock Sensor
#1
89 3vze SR5 manual.
THE LAST time i had it running..........
Got the code for Knock sensor.
sigh.
IS THERE a test procedure that can be done BEFORE I CONSIDER having to open it up ??
Is there a way to verify that the sensor has gone down the dreaded DEAD highway ???
Right now i"m down to the fuel rail. Replacing Injectors and pigtails.
I will need to test Injector firing order WHEN I get the top put back together. I'll look into renting the Noid kit and pulling plugs. Do a crank test with fuel unplugged and check to see if spark and noid light off together.
OR, is it a situation that....... if the code shows up, start digging. Cuz I REALLY don't want to.

Bad news. One, or both, knock sensors are dead. Buy replacement sensors, and pigtails, from the dealership. Aftermarket sensors, even brand new ones, will still throw the code. I know from personal experience. You'll need replacement gaskets for all the intake stuff above the valley, too, as you'll be removing it all. Unless the gaskets are new already. But if they've been in already for even a short time, replace them.
The injectors fire odd/even, BTW. That's the only firing order they have. ECU applies ground to them to fire them off. As long as the timing belt is installed correctly, the injectors will fire off properly. Same with the plugs, although they fire individually, again, by the ECU. Assuming the timing belt was installed properly.
Does any of that help at all?

DaaaaaaaMMMMit !!!!!!
Hi Ho. Hi ho it's off to dig I go.
Well, I figured.
I have purchased the majority from Lakeland Toyota, a Toyota parts "wholesale" warehouse. Toyota Parts Overstock.
Injectors;
Have a fresh Single hole set refurbed by Injector Masters. Took a set of 4 hole out.
I'm still gonna do the "Noid" test.
What I'm gathering, by reading several other post's and yours, is that the ECM powers ALL odds at one time and then evens, at on time.
Does that make sense ??
Yeah, but no, not to me.
Firing order....
#1 hole gets juiced, fires. Next cylinder, in the firing order, juiced, fires.
If ECM signals all Injectors, odd or even, at one time, that's a lot of wasted fuel.
So, the reason for the "Noid' test.
And yes, more time with hood up and less time on the road.
sigh
I'll bet if i had an 89 American made vehicle i'd be driving more and less open, no wait, Hood OFF time. Besides, I enjoy spending countless hours searching FOR parts.
sigh
Thanks

Notice the ECU only outputs the ground for the fuel injectors on pin 10, or pin 20. Pin 10 is even, 20 is odd. They are provided +12 at all times, so when 10 applies ground to the injectors, yes, ALL the even numbered injectors fire.
Does that help?
