My 86 had a knock when I bought it. Ran like a top. The knock was only at idle. As soon as you touched the gas it would go away. After 4 years, the head gasket blew, so I rebuilt the engine. The key slot on the crank was worn allowing the pulley to slap the key. The noise sounded like it was inside the engine.
