So I was traning someone on how to do a pressureized coolant flush on my runner(3vze) yesterday, when she turned the pump on coolant started pouring down the front of my block by where the thermostat is. It seems to be coming from above the thermostat and not from the thermostat it's self. All in all Im pretty bummed because I was gonna go pick up 4 bfg ATs but now I gotta fix this.
So I'm planning on picking up a new waterpump, thermostat, timing belt, the idlers and tensionser for the timing belt. Is there anything else I should handle while I'm doing this?

 

That's about it. Sounds like it blew out your water pump seal...

 

What do you guys think the easiest way to get the bolt for the crank pully off? And what size is it? I remember as a kid watching my stepdad put the breaker bar on the bolt and Leaned it up against the inner fender then tapped the started to break it loose.

 

stepdad did it the easy way- just pull the coil wire so the engine doesn't start and lean the breaker bar against the right side of the frame (when standing in front of the engine)... and I think it's 17mm (3/4 might substitute)

 

crank pulley bolt is a 19mm if I remember correctly and the cam pulleys are 17mm

crank pulley is a 19mm and what i use is a chain wrench and a big breaker bar.

how do you guys compress the tensioner to put the Allen wrench in?

 

I just back the tensioner bolts out. You'll end up pulling it entirely, anyway. You'll probably have to pull the pulley, too. I just did this yesterday & it took me all of 30 minutes to get the belt on properly. It gets easier with practice~

 

So i did the Waterpump and Timing belt yesterday. woke up at 9 and drove to the yota dealer to pick up parts. got started around 1030 and it all taken apart at 1250 and all put back together along with my new(used) 40 series(that i got for $15) at around 4 pm. could have been done alot sooner if i wasnt teaching a guy how to flush out his rear diff with break cleaner, you would think it would be pretty self explanitory but no i was called over so many times its not funny....Honestly this was one of the easier Tbelts I'v had to do, all of my others have been on front wheel drive cars so there was no room. this was nice and spacy and i didnt break any bolts! woo

And the old water pump is still good, i just blew out the gasket where it meets the block, now i got a spare.

Old timing belt, last record i have of it being done was at 160,000 now at 280,000.


all said and done parts+ 200 or so in tools (because i left all mine in California when i move)+ a bill or tw0 = Nothing left of my tax refund,
But iv worked on my first 3vze so mission accomplished
