I have a factory Toyota alarm in my 4runner. It went off the first time I started it and I've never heard it again. I can lock the doors and and unlock the doors and the alarm doesn't go off. Did toyota make a factory keyless entry for our 4runners? I called and gave them my vin # and they told me they don't have keyless entry and I can't buy a remote. I tend not to believe them.

So do our 4runners have factory remote keyless entry?

I did quite a bit of research on this a couple of weeks ago.. and really did not find any definitive answer on Keyless entry's on our Toy's ... Mine is a 91 Ex Cab SR5 PU with what seems like most of the factory candy. ie. power windows/door locks, ac, pop up sunroof.. but no keyless entry. So I bought a cheap (40.00$) Ebay alarm system with the keyless entry and wired it up under the dash .. for right now I only have the keyless part hooked up non the alarm. (will get to that later) Just really wanted to be able to unlock it with out fumbling for keys and to add insult to injury the passenger side lock is busted so putting all my stuff in from that side was tedious (go to the drivers side unlock to get to the passenger side.)

Oh wow. Sounds like thats pretty cheap. I would swear someone has a factory keyless entry...

idk about it being factory...but my 4runner also has an alarm on it....and it's a beast lol.


i'm going to a local auto electronics store in a town nearby and they're going to check it out and get it working properly with a new key FOB

Let me know what you find. We talked about this and I definetly was wondering the same thing and would love to have keyless entry.

Me too! I think a factory keyless entry would have been awesome at the time these 4runners were produced. Unfortunately i'm doing a timing belt so I haven't driven the runner in a week!

Belt break throw off a tooth? How bad was it, or you just doing preventative maintence?
