Is this just a mod for the 3.0?

Anything like this for the 22re?

First gen runners included in this also? I got an 88. I also have a sister living in N Ridgeville. We grew up across Mill in Avon.

I keep hearing about using a VAFM from a supra in the 22re application. I know a few members have done this mod. Try a search, perhaps they might chime in on here aswell...

Thanks yotasavg, I'l try to get me one of those 1990 V6 4 valve afm thingies.

Pics of it hooked up so we can see the guts would be nice. That way I can compare it to my setup. Thanks to swaycleveland for the R & D, go Tribe, go Browns, go Cavs

If you want to do this mod on a 22RE then you will need to use an AFM from a 5M-GE engine.

Thanks for posting this!! Sounds like I have more modding in my future.. And if that mileage holds--WOOHOO! I'm running 31 inch mud terrains, and felt like my mileage was pretty decent considering. But this AFM might be just what the doctor ordered in the quest for more power AND mileage!

SUBSCRIBED...

as much as i want this to work... how can it help much when the opening of the new one is ~ 4.8 square inches vs the stock AFM at ~4.5 square inches. based on your measurements? to me it seems like its almost not worth it. but if more people are also getting better gas mileage i'll just throw that theory out the window

James

so according to that thread, these all use the same pinout and should work, but obviously don't have the same size openings

1= Fuel pump switch
2= Fuel pump switch
3 Not used
4= ECM/PCM (+5v)
5= ECM/PCM (-)
6= VAF signal
7= IAT signal

I think I got them all. These listed above are for the vane air flow meters (VAFM) only!

Woo!

Once the OP posts more results, I'll be tempted to find an abandoned/ part-out Camry!

I NEED MPG! My butt hurts from riding my bike.

I have no idea on the sizing, you have to roam the junkyards yourself. Yes the will work but some may have to be adjusted just like the original poster did.

My math shows ~5 square inches vs. ~3.5 square inches, which would be an improvement in the area of the opening of approximately 30%.

A mod like this wouldn't cause the truck to run lean though right? I don't fully understand, wouldn't I get similar results if I ran an intake with a large tube running from the throttle body?

Not quite. Close your mouth, plug one nostril and inhale quickly. Unplug your nostril and try again. Now, open your mouth and inhale through your nose and mouth. More airflow, right?

Except you look kinda stupid sitting there and doing this experiment. If anyone hears you, they're going to think you're looking at porn.

So basically this guy is saying you can buy the mass air flow sensor from the 88-91 v6 camry, basically bolt it on. rig a way for the tube from the tb to the sensor and thats it? basically all plug and play?

So here are some pics of the AFM I scored off a early 90's CAMRY tonight not sure of the year but my Buddie seen the pics of the one posted here and Say's it the same motor so I hope this one works.

I would also like to know if the 22r afm article is the one which he speaks of in 4crawlers web site anybody know?

If this is the correct one then I will be installing it on a
1990 4runner with 237,367 miles
5 speed 5.29 gears 35 x 12.5's
cold air intake mod
I need to get the correct article to set the afm back 3 clicks then I will install it and test run it to see if it does anything for power and M.P.G.
