you should probably post up a link and maybe a picture of what you are asking about...also, a description of the intake (i.e. what year, motor, etc). chances are someone on here is running it but they will need more details to help you out. hope this helps.

If yer referring to the Downey "big" intake cleaner for the 22RE - yeah I have one.

it makes the engine nozier

I suppose with a K&N its increased my ring wear - but at 1qt/3K at 350K I guess its hard to say what has caused the "wear".

I got it back in oh 91 for my 89. Dunno if I would do it again.
I still have the stock airbox.

If you want some laughs...

call up downey and ask them how their intake compares to the KN.

I have their big ole air filter and like ewong says, it's noisier.

Maybe the engine is a little more peppy with it, but if you are expecting gobs of blot on HP this ain't it. It is a good idea if you are combining it with other things, like a freer flowing exhaust and a better head and cam.

Ok, I just got my downey header and 2.5" stainless steel exhaust system installed. Combined with their big air filter these two mods combined really woke up that little 22RE. It revs real easy to 4500 RPM and starts out in first gear so much smoother. I am very pleased with the quality of their products and the performance I've gotten so far.
