Instrument lights/dimmer problem

Hey guys seems like a minor thing, but I havent been able to figure anything out.

I took apart the dash to install a new cd player, when I put everything back together my instrument lights were at a about 50% brightness. And now the dimmer knob won't change the brightness, they are always just on half brightness. They turn off when I turn my lights off, but I want them brighter like they used to be. What could I have messed up to have done this?

it sounds like you grounded your illumination circuit wrong.

did your stereo have an orange lead for "illumination"? what did you hook it up to?

if you're sure that the radio is wired correctly, it could have a short internally.

typically, when you do something which results in an error, undo it and see if the error goes away. remove the radio, see if it works right again.

Been a while, I started not worrying about it. But I still cannot get the instrument panel lights to adjust off of their "half-lit" setting. New dimmer switch? New bulbs? I've fiddled with as many wires as I could get my hands on, but nothing effects the instrument panel lights. Email me if you like, I just want bright lights again...
