Cant you just go to a junk yard and get the matching guage cluster out of an sr5? Hooking up a tach is really simple

That is true, they are plug-n-play but alas all the 4runners in the junkyards i've been too have been missing the cluster...patiently waiting till one appears!

not really answering your question
but I added a 2" tach to my truck.. I put it at the bottom of the a-pillar, on top of the vent which blows on the drivers window.. 2" so it's not too big, and its in the corner deep enough that it doesn't obstruct my view at all..
think I paid $20 for it.. 4 wire hook up.. ign 12 V, Ground, switched light source, tach signal

junk yards ok but those gauges go real fast...check ebay sometimes people are sellen them on there. also ive seen a few on craigslist. ive got an 88 pickup and i swapped the no-tach cluster for an 84 sr5 cluster. but i got it for free. i thought id have to wire in the tach, volt, and oil gauges but they just worked when i hooked it up.

oh and the only thing you may have to change on your rig is the oil pressure sender...

do you have pic of this set up.
I've been thinking of doing the same kinda thing, or using a 3 piller pod for other guages too.
