While the cutoff is relatively "sharp" (and that's debatable) the beam spread looks terrible. One of the classic examples of why NOT to put HIDs into halogen housings.

For what it's worth, I've done both- the PnP style kit in Hella E-code housings, and a proper retrofit. I used to swear by my PnP kit, but the fact is that they just suck no matter how you look at it. I guess you could say I "saw the light" and removed the PnP kit and went with a proper rewired halogen setup with dual beams (highs stay on with lows) and the output is much better than the PnP HID kit. Better spread, better cutoff, better all around.

If you're not doing a proper OEM style retrofit, just don't bother. A good halogen setup will be better, more reliable, have better output and a better cutoff.

How do you install these inside of a glass sealed beam? It looks like a easy mod but I don't get that part.

these are conversion housings, not OEM style sealed beams. I think I confused him on not running hid in a plastic housing. Some conversion housings are plastic and some are glass. HID should only be used in glass.

The lamps my truck uses right now are all one piece everything is sealed together. I can not remove the light bulb. When I got to replace them I have to replace the whole lamp not just the bulb. FYI I don't anything about this kind of stuff.

on 2nd gen 4Runners, its held on by a circular clip, spin it off, pull the bulb out, put the HID in, reattach the clip, and hook up the ballast... you're good to go.

You need a conversion kit like this that converts it to a H4 bulb. I am gonna be doing it once I get my yota back on the road but I hear its way better

Ya I read in a nother thread today that you shouldn't use that lamp for the HID conversion. Something about the cut off and blinding over people and you wont be able to adjust them. I wonder if the light put out is better than what I have now?

Yeah you shouldnt run them with hids but it im sure if you bought those with some nice bulbs and upgraded your wiring you will be set. Ill try and find the pics from someone else who upgraded to those

you have to buy some new housings like drmix has pointed out in order to change the bulb.

Yeah im pretty sure the wiring is the same but its better to upgrade the wiring to something thicker especially if you want to upgrade to some more powerful bulbs. Ive heard good things about the osram nightbreakers which is what ill probably be going with
