Inner Axle Tube (Rear)?

So I'm finally all done screwing with my aussie, and I'm about to throw it back in the axle now that I've got half a day off.

One question though... When the truck fell off the jack stands with the 3rd out and the shafts still in with the tires on, these "inner axle tubes" (for lack of knowing what the hell they're called) somehow got pushed in.

How do they stay in? Should I just push em in till I get the the 3rd in and forget about it, or...? Cause I don't see any mounting hardware whatsoever on these... Trying to get it all done while there's still light so I can go wheelin tonight!

That sheetmetla thing you see in the pic?

There is two little tabs like spot welded inside of the housing where that piece goes, one tab on the top and bottom. Push it in far enough so they sort of click into place.

Yeah I was wondering what the hell those little "tabs" inside the housing were for... The sheetmetal thingamajiggers aint actually clicking into place (think they got squashed somehow)... You sure that's all that holds it? Guess I could always stretch em out some more somehow.

I pushed the wings on the sheetmetal thing outward a little bit so there was more tension when i pushed them into the axle housing so they would click onto the tabs.

Good deal. Yeah, caint wait to get it all done so I can drive it to my buddy's shop and build me a badass stinger like we did for another friend with a taco. The thing looks killer (and it aint nowhere near done yet, just the main hoop so far):

I think they're suppose to act like windage trays like in the oil pan. So, then windage subtube tray axle tube thingies is probably more technical.

Almost done, breaking for supper.

Purpose of a stinger, a.k.a. crevice device, is so when you're going down a sharp incline, you don't roll end over end if the angle is too high. Or from falling into a crevice. The longer the main hoop, the harder it would be to front flip it, and the bigger crevice you can keep yourself from falling into. Also helps with faceplants, mowing down trees/deer/fence/ect. Just like anything, it's not to everyone's taste. I love them. And that one's already destroyed an ARB on a jeep in a pull-a-ton. And that's without secondary hoops and braces! Super strong.

And it's done.

It's alive. Oh good lordy and sweet baby jesus, IT'S ALIVE!

Operates great, noticed no ill-affects from dropping it off jackstands so no bent axles or fubar'd seals. Soooo nice having it up and running after 3 months of pain-in-the-ass-erry.

Took some pictures after I took it to the carwash for a test drive. Here it is clean, cause you'll probably never see it clean again!

I used a long extension in my cordless drill with a brass wire wheel and that worked great.
