injector question

While doing my head gasket replacement I noticed that two of the six injectors looked different. The #3 and #6 injectors have a green plastic cover on the end of the injector. The other 4 injectors don't have this on them. Is this cover needed? Can new green covers be bought or do I have to buy new injectors. Will it make a difference on gas mileage or performance?

I could be wrong but you should have those caps on there. Now if this is a project truck and not your DD you could send all of your injectors to Cruzinperformance where they can clean up your injectors for less than one new injector. I sent mine and was very happy with their service, pricing, and results.

Definetly make sure all the gromets and washers are in place or you will have some problems.

You might find a local place to clean and balance the injectors if you are in a time crunch. Some have same day turn around. I've had good luck with deisel service centers. Big rig type. You'd have to call around your area to price shop. Tell them what engine the injectors are from and they can tell you if they are familiar with the brand.

Generally any injector service place should make sure all your washers and such match and are in good condition.

Cool

You can take the caps off if you want. It's pretty common practice when swapping injectors with broken caps.
However... They will seal better with the caps.
