Red face Im an idiot.

So today I was dropping my sister off at church and as I was leaving I heard a knock coming from my front driver's side tire. I checked it out and everything looked fine at fist glance. So, I cruised around the parking lot and listened to it, then put it in 4x4 then took it out then fooled around with the hubs a bit and the only difference I noticed was it would stop when I turned sharp or braked. It sounded sort of like a cv axle going bad but with more of a thud. So I limped home across town, got out the jack, and started to loosen the lugnuts on the front drivers tire when I noticed they were all loose and half of them were just about to fall off! Then I checked the other front tire and noticed the same on the other side! I guess I didn't tighten them things enough after all. Anybody else ever do something stupid like that.

lol this person i know that is very close to me was helping his buddy put a clutch in his truck and was being rushed to hurry up only put one bolt in the driveline to get it out of the way to work on something else and forgot to put the other three back in, needless to say it almost made it out of the driveway and dented the gas tank in the process. I will always remember driveline bolts now lol.

Many years ago I had something like this happen. I dropped my rig off to get the tires rotated and balanced at a local shop, it was a 97 Ford 1 ton 4 door 4x4 deisel on 38's and halfway through a 1000 mile run I had a shimmy on the front end. Pulled over to check the front end and didn't see anything amiss. A few miles down the road the pass side tire shattered the lug nuts and came off at 80 mph. The damn tire crawled up the fender, across the hood and grabbed the cow catcher on the front end and took off across the highway. It hit a rock wall with enough force to blow the tire and split the rim at the welds.

The tire shop claimed that "arm strength" was enough to torque the lugs even though the manual said 110ft lbs. They paid for a new tire, rim, and full front axle to include new lift springs, shocks, steering box and all the steering componenets.

From that point on I carried a torque wrench in the truck and would check the lugs every time I stopped. I still check my lug nuts before a long run or before I go offroad.

You got lucky, I almost rolled a 1 ton with my family inside.....

oh let's not even get into the "losing a tire" senario...

but hey, I found another pic; my sister took this with her cell phone from accross the intersection when she was coming to pick me up to take me to the parts store to get some new lugs; you can see me with the door cracked, tire tucked up in the fender, lmao

man, that has me baffled too, lmao, I have abxolutely NO idea...

you would think it would have at least pushed the exhaust up into the fender and scratched the paint off a little, but no...

Man its good to know im not the only one. Of course I crawled home at ten miles an hour. but then again it was my fault.

Ed H. It's funny you say that because my driveshaft snapped off going 45 mph and all it did was dent up the bottom of the bed near the t-case.

This happened a couple months ago. The was right at the intersection of 50 and 405.

Well I haven't been to Denny's in a while. Well, I haven't drive'n my truck up there in a while.

But yeah, I go to the AAP on 50 a lot actually, I live right around the corner from the place, right back in the Highlands. And I know a lot of the guys that work in there; back when I worked for AAP, I started in that store on 50 and trasfered over to the PSJ store. I think I remember you parking next to me man! That was the day I was replacing the bulbs in my 6" lights on my bumper; parked over to the side by the K-Mark parking lot!

You didn't see my YotaTech sticker on the back window?

Well, my PU's my DD right now, so I haven't been wheeling it much at all lately. But when I use to a lot, I usually just went out to Canaveral Groves out by Black Hole, there's a side tril off Grissom that a lot of people like to go down back to a place most just call either Black Hill or Sharpes, and there's also a little trail off 407, though nobody I know really goes out to that one too much.

There's not a whole lot but mud around here and I kinda hate it... hell, I don't have to tell you that though, lol

How bout you? Where-about in T-ville are you at?

I live in that nieghborhood right across from the police staion on 405. I just hit 407 last night and it was pretty dry. Have you ever turned off of 407 onto shepard and went down any of those other trails.

I haven't been out to 5a in literally years; never with my Toy

It's off Grissom, say you take 405 over to PSJ, well you go through PSJ, pass Faye, then just pass the onramp to 95, over on the right there's an opening that's really sandy. Well that's where we use to go and hang out, but the crown got younger and younger, and a little more roudy, so I stopped going out there. Also, the more I think about it, I'm not sure how legal that land is to be on, though I've never heard of anyone getting in trouble out there, and I've pulled out of there at 2 or 3 in the morning in front of police cars and they never said anything...
