I'm gonna kill my 4Runner.....again
Hey. I have a 1994 Toyota 4Runner SR5 V-6 5 speed with 31-10.50 tires. My runner is the easiest thing in the world to stall/kill when taking off, I mean REALLY easy. My clutch now chatters(at 15,000 miles) because of the hard launches that it takes just to get that brute moving. I had a good centerforce clutch, too. Doesnt' slip though. Anyways, I went to one of those sites with the diff decoders, and I found out that My 4Runner came stock with 225-75 tires, I think those are like 27.5's or 28's. And that the gears are 4.30's and it has a 5 Speed manual, and 31-10.50's. My question for you is: wouldn't that make a pretty big difference? And also, what gears should I have/get?

did you buy the truck with the centerforce clutch or put it in yourself? you may want to check both the master and slave cylinders and bleed out the lines between them. I dont see you having any problem with those gears for only 31's.

If its so difficult to get rolling you must have engine problems. You 'should' be able to let the clutch out slowly and get the car rolling without putting your foot on the gas pedal. I was in a friend's 'overgeared'(33's) Taco 2.7L a couple weeks ago, and I could easily start along with no foot on the gas at idle 700-800rpm.
If you try this, does your engine 'buck' or just quit?

sounds like oil on the disk?
over filled trans or leaking rear main seal
With the 22RE the OEM tire uses a 4.10 and 31" used a 4.56 from the factory (if so equipped).... Id suggest 4.88, but It seems like there are clutch issues.

4.30 with 31's and it barely moves?... you've got other issues, that thing should leap off the ground if you dumped the clutch that hard
I've got 33x12.50's and stock 4.101's and I can still chirp second... (if I wanted to)

I dont know about being able to take off with no throttle, but it shouldnt take much. i also dont know about oil on the clutch/friction plate, but it would make sense. Rear main seal, that is a common problem with older toyota's.

Seems the 3.0 IS easy to stall, everyone who drives my truck stalls it the first time.
All that said, I agree with the above - there is something else going on.
Factory with 31's had 4.56's.

I had help installing it. I think we even resurfaced the flywheel. When i 1st got the 4runner, i used to stall it all the time. now, its not so bad, but i still kill it every once in a while. I wasn't used to the gear box on the yota 5 speed, and I'm not quite sure why i still kill it. I've driven sticks of all different kinds, pick ups, sports cars, econo cars, and tractors, but never had any problems quite like this. Could the shaking be caused at all by a broken motor/tranny mount???

Thanks for all the replies, by the way, I have a 5 speed manual, not an automatic, and the clutch only has 15,000miles on it, the fly wheel was resurfaced when the centerforce was installed. The runner shakes to get moving. I also have a low idle, I'm not quite sure why. It should idle around 800-900RPM, but now it idles pretty low, like around 500 to even as low as 200RPM. This makes it even easier to kill, but i still do it with the idle around 800. Also, it has a high idle sometimes, like 1500RPM. I dunno what the problem with this is. Do you???

I'm going to agree with everyone else something else is wrong. This truck has a high mileage 3.0, with heavy duty autozone clutch, 5 speed, and 4.10 gears.
I have no issues with launches and actually getting just slightly lower than normal mpg, about 15-16 which dropped from 17-18 with 31's. I can also keep up with my friend's toy running same size tires(35's) with 4.88 gears and a 22r.

as far as the getting it rolling without the gas goes, i can attest to that. for a while i couldnt, but i had a burned out flywheel, soooo, as soon as i fixed that and replaced the rest of the clutch system, 700 bucks later i could get er rollin with no gas. outa the driveway i can actually grab enough speed to just come of of the clutch completely in 1st with no gas. thats the extent of my knowledge. lol
