Question Ignition Nightmare please help

I need some help here, if anyones seen my build thread when I bought the truck the ignition was all hacked up, with a ghetto switch! There was a super thin wire running all the way back to the fuel pump, that gauge was obviously too thin and the plastic coating was bubbling off!!! There was also a power wire crammed through the fire wall, going to the battery.

Soooo anyways, I picked up a steering column and a new ignition cylinder and switch. Since the PO hacked the wires, I can't plug in the switch (since it's been cut off!) I've got the FSMs saved and have been browsing them and searching here and nwtoys.com for the last few hours.

Three of the wires on the switch and dash harness match:
black w/ red stripe
blue w/ red stripe
black w/ yellow stripe

The new switch has three wires that DON'T match:
brown
brown w/ white stripe
black w/ white stripe

And the dash harness has five wires that were used with the ghetto switch:
white
white w/ red stripe
black
(sm) light green w/ red stripe
(sm) blue w/ yellow stripe
(sm -these last two wires are smaller gauge then the rest)

My question is this - has anyone hard wired their ignition switch to the dash harness, if so does anyone have a color diagram or know where these unknown wires go to?

And could I get just a wiring pigtail for the dash side of the ignition or do I need to get a whole dash harness and switch the damn thing out?

what the ignition looked like when I got the truck

ghetto switch and hacked wiring

this is supposed to plug into something my harness doesn't have (black plug)

That black plug is the main connection from the ignition switch to the dash harness, if the previous owner cut that out to wire the ghetto switch, I would say your best bet would be to find a truck the same as yours (91, 3.0, manual) and do a dash harness swap. You can do it in a day with a lot less guessing and a lot less headaches.

Wink

You will need the electrical manual from the truck you have.

Also the one from the year your steering column came from.

I also agree replacing the under dash harness for the year truck you have may take more time .

Then tracing wires one at a time from two different sources.

I knew someone else must've done this, found it on Pirate:

AM1 and AM2 are power into the switch. 12v constant hots.
IG1 and IG2 are key on hots, when the switch is in the ON position. power out of the switch
ACC is accessory, power out of the switch when the key is on the ACC position.
ST! and ST2 are start power, power out of the switch when the key is in the start position, this is momentary obviously.

my key is as such
AM1 white
AM2 white/red
IG1 black/yellow
IG2 black/red
ACC blue/red
ST1 black(manual) or black/white (auto)

Do those colors match the wires on your truck? Also if the previous owner hacked up that part of your harness instead of fixing it properly....what else are you going to find hacked to pieces if you are able to piece this mess back together and get it functioning properly?
