IFS VS. Straight axle
My 2nd gen is all stock pretty much and I have IFS on it.
I know the reason for swapping the IFS for a straight axle up front on these 2nd gens.
I wanted to know more about what everyone on this forum thinks?
What does everyone perfer and why?
Also, real quick question, I noticed a lot of people put 1.5inch BJ spacer on there IFS on this forum. Is that because thats what can be got away with without replacing the shocks, brake lines, etc. ?? I'm very interested.
Thanks

The IFS vs SFA is an argument that will never end..
As for the BJ spacers, They give minimal lift while not having to replace things like you said, so yes..
Also, I dont have 8392 dollars to throw down for a bracket lift, + if I did that money would go into an IFS Long Travel fund...

Scuba, If it costs that much for a 4" bracket lift, than your great grandkids will be old before there's enuff money in your long travel fund......!
Damn, Abe bought his for less than 5 bills, talk 'bout inflation

Ive read not expereinced that bracket lifts can bend the frame if you wheel your ride. I run 33" with minimal t-bar cranking and some metal trimming. But I'm soon going to SAS soon. IFS will take you far, I've made all the trails the SA guys have gone. I'm SAS mostly cuase I want to, want to level out my rig and really not crazy about the IFS options. I do look forward to more wheel travel. I've also built up most of the other rest of the truck. SAS was low on my list of wheeling mods.

Actually spent 400 on phase 1: procomp stage 2 w/ blocks... Craigslist can be your friend. Then another 200 on phase 2: to replace the blocks with lift springs. Phase 3 is gonna be BJ spacers and rear traction bars... and likely regearing and 33's (might push to stage 4 and do 35"). Phase 4 will be combining to long travel, T100 rear axle, and likely new springs. By the time I'm done, I should have around 9 inches of lift on IFS w/out body lift and about 11" travel up front.
But yeah the arguments about SAS vs. IFS are never ending and they each have things they do better than the other.

The order of importance for different modifications on your truck is as follows.
1. Drivetrain
2. Armor
3. Tires
4. Suspension

I love my IFS rig; I'll beat on her till she gives up; and when it does give out (not if, but when), I'll probably fix the IFS and do it again
now if I get another vehicle and can afford the SAS, maybe... but only maybe...

How do you use your truck?
Do you care about the body/glass?
Suffice it to say, if you have to ask if you need a SAS, you don't.
I disagree with the list above slightly, I say:
1. Armor
2. Gears/lockers
Tires when your wear out
Lift after youv'e wheeled the crap out of the above and KNOW exactly what you need for how you use your truck.

It's capable for most applications. Do you see crawlers with ifs? Mudders? No, probably not.
I really don't think their is a list of importance, it is all pretty important when it comes down to it.

I m o, it all comes down to traction and trails, and truck use. I run IFS in my current rig, and sold my 93 solid ax Toy. There is no overall answer, like apples and oranges. Score trucks run ifs, monster trucks run solids. It depends on the purpose of the vehicle.

IFS is great and fine for most applications.
Yeah, goosebumps. Tucker sno-cat. First motorized crossing of Antartica in 1957. It has a solid axle by the way.
