I am trying to determine if the spindle bushings are worn out on my 92 IFS 4x4 truck. Searched and found all sorts of threads on how to replace them, but none listing worn vs new specs or even any pics that show what worn bushing looks like. My truck has manual hubs. Should there be any significant play at the splined end of the axle where it sticks threw the spindle tube? Any advise would be helpful.

In the fsm it doesnt say anything about specs, but if you wiggle the cv joint part nearest to the wheel it shoudlnt have any play.

Thanks for the reply. There is very little movement where the cv shaft goes through the back of the spindle, but quite a bit at he splined end when it is sticking through the spindle. This is when the spindle tube is bone dry and no spacer and snap ring holding the splined end. Is this thing being packed with grease going to going to help this thing fit better/tighter? The bushings look to be round with no significant wear marks. Can I assume that these bushings are "OK".

Yeah grease is going to help alot, they need to be grease. I need to take mine out again and regrease it because when i have the hubs locked and not in 4x4 my right side makes a nice noise....

I remember seeing a tool for greasing this area, I don't remember who made it or what it was called. Looked like a pipe cap with a fitting. Any one remember these. I'm thinking Mac tools for some reason.
