Ifs box dead spot.

Hello,

Just swapped in an early style ifs box and it is hard to turn at idle or at low speed. When I started the vehicle this morning I had zero power steering until I drove it for a bit. The truck is hard to turn at first then easier to turn as it gets toward lock in either direction

I bled the system a few times and have not gotten any different results. Does this sound like a worn out box or another issue ?

Welcome to YotaTech.

By "ifs [Independent Front Suspension] box" I'm going to guess you mean the Power Steering Gear Housing. My guess is that the adjusting screw is too tight. You need to adjust freeplay. http://web.archive.org/web/201310211.../3onvehicl.pdf

Let me suggest you learn how to set your "signature." That's the best place to put your make/model/year/engine/transmission/body style information, so you won't have to keep re-typing it. Yes, all of that is important, if you want to get usable advice.

The adjustment screw is already backed out pretty far. I’m experienced at most things mechanical but have never had a steering box go bad.
