Idler Arm Brace Dimensions

6 months back I purchased a Downey Idler arm brace but held out installing it. I have purchased the autozone idler arm recommended by SDORi and intend on ordering his brass bushings for that model. The issue is that the Downey brace does not necessarily cradle the idler arm tightly, as it would an oem arm. There is a gap at the tab (widest part) along the arm. Any suggestions? Will this defeat the purpose of installing the brace? The truck does get used for rock crawling or anything "extreme". This will be the third idler arm in 9 years. Appreciate the advise as always!

Correction

The vehicle does not get used for rock crawling. It is an occassional daily driver.

Hmmmmm, well, I know that on my brace I just tightened the bolts up to "sandwich" the arm for a nice snug fit.

Sandwiching the tabs to bend them in still leaves a gap. I'm thinking of having extra material welded before I install it.

The brace is intended to prevent the arm from folding up- side to side movement is not important.

I simply tightend the bolts enough to bend the brace around the idler. It makes removal impossible without a good bench vise but its worth it.

also. I would change out the bolts they give you, they are only grade three, I already broke two.

Looks like I'll go that route. I still need to order the SDORI brass bushings before I proceed. I sprung for the NAPA pitman arm that will go on at the same time.

Thanks for the suggestions and advice
