idler arm bad or not?

94 4x4 22RE 196k

I just got my truck inspected to find that I need an idler arm. Or so the mechanic tells me. How do I check the idler arm? If there is excessive play, do I need to replace the arm or is there a rebuild I can do?

Just replaced the bushings in mine two weeks ago. Total cost = $15 from dealership and about 1 hour of time. Easy, easy, easy and cleaned up a lot of slop in the steering.

The idler arm changed sizes in 92 or 93 I think. I got a junker 93 and the shaft has a larger diameter.

The part number I posted is for 91...

p.s who paid 15 bucks for these bushings at the stealer? They are like 7 dollars...
