Do you have a link to your swap or 3.0 tranny mod details for 3.4 swap? I am planning to do my second 3.4 swap. This time on my auto.

Interested also

That would be the swap I'm doing eventually also. 3.4 to an automatic tranny from the 3.0. Details or a link would be cool.

If you wanna stick with the 3.0, Cool, but...
Listen to Brian, he knows what he's talking about. He's very involved with all the 3.4 swap info, and alot of peeps bother/pester him with Q/A. He can even make you a harness if you send him the clips. Heck, he can even help us fools, myself included with tips/info on the auto transmissions.

Brian, if you have the opportunity, and (sorry, I know Dale/mt_goat's posting in his topic) the time, please put a link in your signature on the swaps/info.

Towing....

My V6 feels like it can tow a small house, I wouldn't want to use a 4 cylinder for towing my 22' boat. 4's are good for mileage, but I would be nervous towing anything with a 22re. Only reason I bought a V6 with automatic.

my bad about the 350 i looked it up again and your right its 290 for some reason i thought the high output 350 in the suburbans was only 190

but my point stands its to much weight for the hp gain plus if you go over the 300 hp figure your going to need to replace transmission, axles, drivelines, and more. so yeah 3.4 is my choice

As far as a link goes for the 3.4 swap i havent finished my write up. ive been to busy trying to pay bills. ill see what i can doo otherwise you all can pm me or email me and ill respond to any questions.

thanks for the props shane.

as far as details i swapped a 3.4 into my 89 kept the original tranny that had over 280k on it. i did this by swapping the neutral position switch and the selonoid wiring harness for one from same year 4runner as my engine harness came off of. i then created a conversion harness for the transfer case indicators.

wow. that's the swap i'd like to do, but that sounds like more wiring than i'm inclined to do.

Just as another real world reference, I have a re-man'd 22RE from Advance Auto that my dad had installed a few months before I got the truck from him and we are both very pleased with the performance of the engine.

If I had the truck when the engine was done I would have put some after market goodies in it but as it stands now, it runs superb.

I would recommend the Advance Auto engines for any daily driver.
(I'll say that and someone will post up with a horror story....)

Not Office Max

I work for Comcast Cable. I know, I know, some people hate the company, some people like it. Good place to work, one of the only places in this area that has my type of work available. I'm a level 2.0 technician there.
Only complaint, I wish I had more time off to work on my Toyota and my VW's.
To keep this on topic, does anyone know the weight difference of the 3rd gen 4runners? Everyone says they are lighter due to the frame not being fully boxed. My 92 weighs in at a hefty 5,350 lbs.
