oooooook. well after looking a little over a month for another motor, I came upon this. gotta love CL. guy wanted 600 bones for the truck or 500 for the motor. I bought the whole truck.

Its a 95 4runner with 144k on it. Its the SR5 so its loaded with options. Needs valve cover gaskets and a exhaust manifold gasket. But while its out of the truck Im going to do head gaskets too, just to be safe. The rims are going to be my winter set for the 87 and the gears (4.56 I hope, havent checked yet) are going in the 87 also, along with anything else I feel like playing with. THen the rest of it, tranny (auto) tcase, interior, glass, and body will all get parted out/scraped. Still need to get the motor out of the 92, thats the goal for this weekend.

Good score man!!! FYI: The stock gears with the v6 Auto and factory 31's option were 4.88's so I think you're going to be pleasantly surprised!!!

Progress......

Tranny is ready to come out too, just ran out of time. Next weekend will be cleaning up the engine bay and doing some prep work for the new motor. Then, rolling the 95 in and start taring it apart.

Have you considered a 3.4 swap?
It's a great way to rid yourself of the 3.slow blues.

I dont have any 3.0 blues. I love this motor. Its reliable, has all the power I currently need and its a direct replacement. Cheap easy done gets me back on the trail. Future plans are for a bigger powerplant, but its gonna be a bowtie 4.3, but that wont be till after the SAS.
On a college budget here.

Got more work done today.

Cleaned up some loose ends and finished pulling the tranny.

Rolled the blue truck out and drove the runner in at just after noon. Had the motor and tranny pulled by 5 (we were a little less careful with this one)

Both trucks now sit out side.

Now its time to do headgaskets and up on the new motor before it goes in.

Took the valve springs out for a 3rd time (im getting pretty quick at it) The headgasket kit came with new valve seals, figured I might as well put them in. Put some of the new motor together but didnt have a waterpump gasket, so had to halt for the time being. Tore the old motor apart more. Cause of death to this motor was that it was starved for oil. Also, one of the pistons had a chip in the top of it.

Pic of the chipped piston.

The plum size glob of oil/metal sludge that came out of the pan.

Working on it all next weekend. Should get some work done.

Managed to get a few hours in today. Got the water pump on and the heads torqued down, kinda. Got one side all done and moved over to the next, get about half way through when I head 'clink clink clink" it was the socket. It decided that it didnt want to stay on the extension and wanted to visit the bottom of the engine. So rather than pull the head off, we flipped the engine up on its back to pull the pan. Forgot this one still had oil in it. 6 quarts out the onto the floor. *#&^$*#(@...dam. Anywho, pan off, got the socket. Napa in the morning for the oil pick up gasket then I can keep going with the reassembly.

Notice the oil spill on the floor. haha. The good news is this engine didnt look anythig like my old block. So clean and unabusd. haha. well change that.
