I have a 95 4Runner with 4.56 gears. They are not after market gears. I keep breaking the front differentials. The one I just blew is my 3rd one in 2 yrs and came off a 4Runner with 103K. I also have manual hubs on it as well so the axles are not spinning all the time. I ran both front and rear out of the same truck but I've never had a problem with the rear just bearings or the seal. Anyone have any ideas to why I keep blowing my front differentials??

the last 2 times it broke teeth off the ring. I'm sure its the same thing that happened again.

 

What are you doing when this happens?

 

this time i was going through some easy mud the previous time i went up a small sand hill and i cant remember the 1st time but they break under not so rough of conditions. I see people i 4wheel with do alot worse rock climbs and other things they really work their toyota's and they never have drive train issues so really don't know why I keep breaking them

 

I think you are cursed
The only thing I can think of is when you get your new front differential take it to a shop and have them make sure everything is to spec. I know on the 8" rear differentials the preload drops off over time making them more likely to break under stress. I would assume that the 7.5 front differential has a similar adjustment.

I think i'm cursed to. never had a problem with the rear only the front. never seen anyone with a toyota break a differential doing the 4wheeling I do

you need to have have a shop put them in and start with new ones this time. most likely they weren`t set up right the rear setup dosen`t change from one housing to the other so there won`t be a problem .

 

hmm most people start blowing up their diffs past 33"+.. you running after market tcase gears or duals? ever break cvs?

 

all my friends run 34's and 35's on all stock drivetrain and they've never broken anything. one guyy runs boggers and his hasnt broke anything either and that trucks IFS looks scary going through rock climbs. Never broke a CV axle same original ones 248K on those

 

From the factory set up wrong? all 3??? Not to sound rude but I highly doubt it. I'm putting in the whole front carrier I'm not switching out just the ring & pinion set up

 

and proof you use gear oil.

I took both front and rear from the same truck 103K and of course I use gear oil I check all my fluids the night before I go out 4wheeling

 

anyone know if the shaft with the actuator is a weak point in the newer Toyota trucks and 4Runner's??

 

are you hard on the gas pedal while wheeling?

 

Not any harder than the people I go with. They're really hard on their trucks compared to me. I've seen people do the V8 conversions and never have problems with the drivetrain (when done correctly) The people I go with do some rough rock climbs and they have never broken anything front or rear
